The SEAoT Structural Engineering Hall of Honor accepts nominations for outstanding engineers who began their careers in Texas in the early part of the twentieth century.
Although we have inducted five outstanding engineers from this half century period in to the Hall of Honor, there are many others who have not yet been recognized. The 1920’s was a boom time for construction, particularly in the downtown area of most of the cities. Even though most of this work halted in the early 1930’s, the federal government funded and otherwise encouraged many important engineering projects during the depression. Of course, during WWII construction work for the war effort greatly accelerated across Texas. Many military bases, production plants and defense facilities were built during this time. Aviation related projects boomed in Texas during the war years and thereafter. Much of this we take for granted, but try to imagine what the state would be like without these structures.
All members are encouraged to seek out older and retired members of our profession to learn about the outstanding engineers of this time in our history. It is never too late to document the contributions of engineers of the past. Contact the SEAoT Hall of Honor Committee member for your chapter and discuss your ideas for honoring an important engineer from this time. All members are encouraged to participate in researching and documenting the lives and accomplishments of these individuals.
The deadline for nominations will be 1 August of each year. For more information, contact Britt Gardner at 713 780-3345
