AWARD RECIPIENTS

SEAoT regularly identifies individuals for several prestigious awards, including the Anders Award, the SEAoT Service Award, the Wilbur C. Schoeller Award, and the Young Member Service Award (Click here for information about these awards). The recipients of recent awards are listed here. 

 

Wilbur C. Schoeller Award Recipient – 2026

Abdeldjelil Belarbi, Ph.D.

Dr. Belarbi is a Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and former Department Chair at the University of Houston (UH). Prior to joining the UH in 2009, he was a Distinguished Professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). During his career, he taught more than fifteen different undergraduate and graduate courses on subjects related to structural engineering. He is actively engaged in a broad spectrum of structural engineering research with a focus on the constitutive modeling and experimental investigations of RC/PC structures.

Dr. Belarbi chaired and served on several national technical committees in ACI, PCI, ASCE, and TRB, and made numerous contributions to research and design practice in structural concrete. His recent research projects led to the development of three AASHTO-LRFD design specifications for the use of FRP and stainless-steel prestressing and auxiliary reinforcement in bridge design.

Belarbi is recognized for his research contributions to shear and torsion design, advancing design of prestressing using innovative materials, development of design codes and standards for RC/PC bridges and buildings, and for mentoring and inspiring a new generation of engineers. Dr. Belarbi published over 260 technical papers and supervised over 50 MSCE theses and PhD dissertations. He is a Fellow of six professional organizations and recipient of over 30 awards and honors.

 

Distinguished Service Award – 2026

Ralph Benson, P.E., RA

Ralph is a Senior Structural Engineer with RSP Architects in Fort Worth and leads the structural designers. He enjoys teaching and mentoring young engineers and, occasionally, tormenting the Architects. Ralph is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, and the University of Texas at Arlington. Ralph is a licensed Structural or Professional Engineer in twenty-nine US states or territories and a registered Architect in Texas. At RSP, Ralph produces industrial and automated distribution projects throughout the continental United States. His current projects include a new bottling plant and distribution center in Southern California and an addition to an electrical equipment distribution center in Arizona.

Ralph and his dearest wife have lived in Fort Worth for 29 years, where they raised three lovely daughters. Ralph has attended Fort Worth SEAoT meetings since shortly after the chapter started and has served as the chapter’s treasurer since 2019.

SEAoT Membership

SEAoT membership is offered to corporations and individuals who are interested in the practice of structural engineering and its peripheral issues. SEAoT membership runs from January – December.

However, depending when you join, your membership for the first year will be prorated so that you only pay for the remainder of the year. (Those joining between October 1 and December 31, pay full membership which covers them up to the end of December of the year following the year in which they join.) There are a number of membership options.
