SEAoT Chapter Recognition System Guidelines

The SEAoT Chapter Recognition System is designed to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements and contributions of SEAoT chapters across the state. By tracking and rewarding engagement, leadership, professional development, and community service, SEAoT aims to promote excellence and foster a spirit of collaboration and continuous improvement within its chapters.

Purpose – “What gets measured gets improved.” 1

Eligibility

All active SEAoT chapters are eligible for annual recognition. Current chapters include:

  • Austin
  • Corpus Christi
  • Dallas
  • El Paso
  • Ft. Worth
  • Houston
  • San Antonio

Please note that the activities noted herein are to have been conducted by the chapter collectively as opposed to individual members in the chapter.

Point-Based Evaluation Categories

Category 1:

Chapters earn two points for each affirmative response (with supporting context) to the following questions:

  1. Did the chapter increase its number of professional or corporate memberships from the previous year by 5% or more?
  2. Did the chapter actively support or mentor a student chapter (provide speakers, funding, etc.)?
  3. Did the chapter have a representative at all 4 SEAoT State Board meetings?
  4. Did the overall average chapter meeting attendance for the year increase from last year by 5% or more?
  5. Did a member of your chapter submit an article to the SEAoT Journal – The Structural Engineer?
  6. Did the chapter host a state conference?

 

Category 2:

Chapters earn one point for each affirmative response (with supporting context) to the following questions:

  1. Did the chapter submit any chapter updates to The Structural Engineer journal (e.g., event recaps, upcoming events, scholarship announcements, awards, other announcements)?
  2. Did the chapter conduct any charitable community service projects (Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, Blue Santa, Toys for Tots, Food Bank, etc.)?
  3. Did the chapter conduct or sponsor any Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) educational programs for K–12 students? Click here for resources.
  4. Did the chapter hold at least 4 membership meetings (excluding board meetings)?
  5. Did the chapter hold at least 10 membership meetings (excluding board meetings)?
  6. Did the chapter hold a social event outside of regular meetings (holiday party, happy hour, pickle ball, bowling, golf outing, sporting clays, etc.)?
  7. Did the chapter host a joint event with a structurally affiliated organization (e.g. ASCE SEI, ICRI, AISC, ACI, TSPE, etc.)?
  8. Did the chapter host an event specifically for Younger Members?
  9. Did the chapter provide a student scholarship?
  10. Did the chapter maintain (at least 6 posts per year) an active social media platform (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter/X)?
  11. Did the chapter submit next year’s officer contact list (e.g. past president, president, treasurer, secretary, Board Director 1, Board Director 2, Alternate Board Director, committee chairs, etc.)?
  12. Did the chapter nominate a member for SEAoT’s Schoeller, Distinguished Service, Honorary or Young Member Service awards?
  13. Does the chapter have a current (i.e. updated with upcoming events) website?
  14. Does the chapter have bylaws and are they posted on their website?
  15. Did the chapter conduct elections in accordance with its bylaws?
  16. Did the chapter conduct a member survey for feedback/improvement?
  17. Did at least 1 chapter member attend the SEAoT state conference?
  18. Did the chapter submit a nomination for president elect to the SEAoT Board Nominations committee?
  19. Did at least 1 chapter member attend the NCSEA Summit?
  20. Did at least 1 chapter member work with a local building official or municipality for the purposes of reviewing codes, standards, or special inspection processes?
  21. Did the chapter have at least 1 member serving on the SEAoT GAC Committee?

 

Recognition Levels

25–33 Platinum Chapter
18–24 Gold Chapter
11-17 Silver Chapter

Gold Chapter

Silver Chapter

  • Recognition on the SEAoT website
  • Award presentation at the SEAoT State Conference

 

Submission Process

  • Chapters must submit their completed Annual Recognition Form by January 31st of each year.
  • All submissions should be submitted via an online form located at [insert web address].
  • Points will be verified by the State Awards Committee.

 

Notes

  • Recognition is based on performance during the calendar year (i.e. January 1st through December 31st).
  • Chapters are required to maintain supporting documentation. Chapters may be asked to provide supporting documentation for certain items at the discretion of the State Awards Committee.
