Delegated Design of Connections Using Finite Element Analysis (IDEA Statica)

Presented by:

Mr. Yann Gueguen

Bio:

Yann Gueguen is a Regional Engineer for IDEA StatiCa US, based in Chicago. Born and raised in France, he moved to Illinois for his M.S. in Structural Engineering at Northwestern University. After graduating, he worked for 6 years for DZSE (now Drucker Warner Associates) in Chicago where he focused on steel connection design. He joined IDEA StatiCa US in 2021 as the main point of contact for engineering firms in the Central region of the US, including the state of Texas.

Presentation Description:

This session will cover delegated design of connection using finite element analysis (IDEA StatiCa). When a structural element being designed becomes less simplified, the room for error can grow exponentially leading into potential failures. To avoid this, finite element analysis allows us the ability to cut time and cost on the design of connections. Additionally, the ability to customize connections to meet the needs of the fabricator and erectors, while highlighting extreme connections, conveys not only the ease of design but as well the trustworthiness that comes with the finite modeling.
